Why is health care coverage important?
Having health care coverage can help you set up a “Medical Home” for your family. A “Medical Home” is not a building. It is the relationship you create with health care providers including doctors, dentists and ophthalmologists. These providers see your children for important wellness check-ups as well as care for them when they are sick or injured. Wellness check-ups help you know your children are healthy and can help identify possible health, dental, vision and developmental problems at early stages.
Health care coverage also protects you from the high cost of medical care from an illness or accident.
If you, your spouse or your children do not have health insurance, there are options for health care coverage.
Most of the health coverage programs have eligibility rules.
Because of the rules, not all family members and not all families will qualify for the programs.
Free and low cost health care services also are available at
community health centers.

When you apply for health coverage, remember to:
- Keep copies of the applications and supporting documents.
- Keep all letters that are sent to you.
- If you need to complete forms and return them, keep copies of the forms.
- Return all items by the due date.
